So, it seems as if more and more Savage owners are finding out about what goes into dealing with Harley Davidson dealerships. Here are some pointers from a long term HD owner:
1) Don't tell them it is for a non-HD. You will likely be snubbed.
2) Authorized dealerships suck, period end of story, I don't care who they are or how long they have been in business.
3) Deal only with shops authorized to carry products from V-twin or related outfits. Don't buy factory HD trim items, you will get screwed on cost and quality.
4) If you don't like the HD attitude, don't expose yourself to it. Everything from the shops is available on line, usually for 10% or more cheaper, inclusive of shipping. Save yourself some money and some headaches.
5) Late model (post 1965) Harleys aren't what they are touted to be. Let the yuppie posuer crowd have them (Hogryder excluded since he doesn't have the attitude). For all intents and purposes, HD has been out of the business since 1964. The 12 volt bikes just don't cut it.

If you can't find a decent aftermarket HD shop in your area, send me an e-mail. One of the local HD shops has a large metric bike following. The owner doesn't care what you ride, although she would prefer a few less Hondas hanging around on the weekends.

Riders in major metro areas should have access to Easyriders or Bikers Dream franchises. BUT, don't show up on a Savage until you establish a working rapport with the shop. Once they get to know you, everything should be cool.

On a different track, I finally got some (3) digital photos taken of the baby bike. Now if I can just figure out how to set up a site for y'all to see 'em...
Later,
-WD
